Instant Photography After the End of Polaroid Cameras - TIME

sneak:

In 2010, when the color version should hit the shelves, Impossible hopes to sell 1 million new films, with prices likely to range from $23 to $28 for a 10-shot cassette.

This TIME article contains updates on where things currently stand with The Impossible Project, and it’s encouraging to see how things are progressing. But if these are indicative prices (assuming they are in US$) it means 10 shots of film could cost up to $50NZ. That’s $5 per photograph. I’m more than happy to pay for film, but unfortunately at those prices it means my camera won’t get as much use as I would like :(

A single pack of Polaroid film (600 type) already retails for $50-plus in New Zealand (that’s if you can even find it in stock); it’s better than nothing. There is always Trade Me/Ebay for the occasional bulk lots of expired film, as well as bulk purchases from overseas sites like Polapremium (the shipping is what kills you, hence why it’s necessary to buy in bulk). At any rate, shooting film these days comes at a premium. The Impossible Project is not catering to the mass markets, but rather the artisans and enthusiasts.
